Shhh… don't tell everyone, but in 2014, after two decades in London, Mike Cooper followed his dream to live in nature. Nowadays he enjoys log cabin life in the forest with his partner, two rescue dogs – and an increasing array of livestock – in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Fortunately, high-speed cable internet means he can still be the "guy next door", no matter where you are in the world…

Starting out as a newsreader for the BBC World Service, and narrating TV documentaries for the likes of HISTORY and National Geographic, his work has been described as "exceptional", his performance as "spot on in the first take", and his delivery as having an "effortless authority".

This week on the VO Radio show, we chat with Mike about his start the business, his career path and how he got to where he is today. It's an exception snapshot into the career path of one of the best.

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a Ride!”
